Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp announced on August 27, 2026, that Walmart will invest $1.3 billion to build a 1.5 million-square-foot, next-generation automated fulfillment center at the Franklin 85 Logistics Center in Carnesville, Franklin County, creating 1,000 new jobs, with construction expected to begin in late 2026.

Why it matters

It is one of the largest single corporate investments announced in Georgia this year and concentrates 1,000 high-tech logistics jobs in a rural North Georgia county roughly 85 miles from Atlanta, on top of the 11 supply chain facilities Walmart already runs in the state.

What to watch

No site-plan, permitting, or state incentive-package details have been made public yet; the announced timeline calls for construction to begin in late 2026, so watch Franklin County's permit desk and the Georgia Department of Economic Development for the formal incentive agreement and site work.
