Georgia's Department of Community Health approved Grady Health System to build a freestanding 200-bed short-stay acute-care hospital in Fulton County. The August 11 certificate-of-need decision lists an estimated project cost of $924.8 million. Grady’s March 18 announcement had identified the planned campus near its emergency department on Campbellton Fairburn Road in Union City.
That announcement forecast an early-2028 opening for the medical office building and a 2031 opening for the hospital. Grady outlined funding from Fulton County bonds, health-system financing and philanthropy. Those dates are Grady’s announced targets.
Why it matters
The approval would add substantial inpatient capacity to metro Atlanta's core safety-net system.
